My buddy Jerry

I have a great friend of mine, Jerry Spence. He's 57 years old and he's pretty amazing. He is amazing because I have been training him since 1999 and I can count on one hand the number of workouts that he has missed since then. And he has a damn stressful life, he owns a bar, has 4 kids the whole deal. What Jerry does is use training as a stress release. If he doesnt get his training in, he just doesnt feel right. And he's not using cables and band and bosu balls. He squats on Monday, Benches and presses on Wednesday and Deadlifts on Friday. I cycle his training, some weeks heavy, some weeks light. He also pushes the prowler and hits the heavy bag.If he's running late, he does the basic lift for the day, some dips and chins and leaves. But if Jerry can do it, with the stressful life that he leads, then anybody can do it."Gotta get it in, Jimmy" is what he always says to me, and he's right. Thats what it's all about.

All About Being a Lifer

What's a Lifer? Someone who isn't in to something for just a day, a month, a year...it's for life. Whether its training or your family or your job...it doesn't matter. You work at it, you build on it, you see the big picture . You don't miss workouts because it means something to you. You are like a Shakespearean actor- no matter what is going on in your life, you block it out when it's time to train. You walk into the weight room and all else disappears. Worry about it later.
