Hip Explosion

I was talking to an NFL scout yesterday on what the difference is between a college player and an NFL player, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. He said, "hips" and I know what he means. The ability to extend your hips with max force defines a great hitter- it's that "snap" when they hit someone that makes you go Damn! when you hear and see it. How is this developed? I'd be lying if I said that a lot of it wasnt genetic. However, with cleans, box jumps, squats and deadlifts, you can maximize what you do have to bring more from your hips. Accelerate the bar or implement with max force to develop this, and use weights in the 65 to 75% for a good period of your training get strength benefit but to also improve that all important explosiveness.

All About Being a Lifer

What's a Lifer? Someone who isn't in to something for just a day, a month, a year...it's for life. Whether its training or your family or your job...it doesn't matter. You work at it, you build on it, you see the big picture . You don't miss workouts because it means something to you. You are like a Shakespearean actor- no matter what is going on in your life, you block it out when it's time to train. You walk into the weight room and all else disappears. Worry about it later.
