Dieting is Crap

Dieting is a pain in the ass. If you are into bodybuilding, you have to do it. No question. If you are going to be on stage, you are going to be in front of a bunch of folks judging every line and vein and shape and bulge and...you get my drift.

But. But. But. If you arent getting ready for the stage, if you arent dieting for wrestling or the Tour De Whatever where bodyweight is so critical, let it go. What does "let it go" mean? It means eat what you want, stop before you are full, and LIFT HEAVY! and oh yeah, sleep alot.Once you do let it go, it gives you a huge sense of freedom. No longer do you have to pack your meals the night before. You can have 2 soft pretzels from the Speedy Mart and not feel like you have failed in life.

If you eat too much at one meal, eat less at the next. So when my buddy Bill The Cop brought his annual Vanilla Cream Doughnuts from Hell to the football game on Saturday, I quickly wolfed down two of them. I was so full that I couldnt eat for hours. So for dinner, I ate light. It kept my calories down to maintenance level I am sure.

Now, eating this way will not make you look like Cutler, but you could look like Coan, and that ain't bad at all. It just gets SO OLD worrying about it. All specialized diets work, but not for long. It is much easier to eat what you want and a little less.

All About Being a Lifer

What's a Lifer? Someone who isn't in to something for just a day, a month, a year...it's for life. Whether its training or your family or your job...it doesn't matter. You work at it, you build on it, you see the big picture . You don't miss workouts because it means something to you. You are like a Shakespearean actor- no matter what is going on in your life, you block it out when it's time to train. You walk into the weight room and all else disappears. Worry about it later.
