Thoughts

Most people in life are a bunch of "I'm Gonna's" or "We are gonna's"

Crap. A speech has never won a game. To paraphrase Bum Phillips , "I give a big go-get -them speech before a game and then they run down on the kickoff and get knocked on their butt. That speech didn't help much." It looks good on film to some, cameras love that stuff.

Chuck Noll never complimented Terry Bradshaw. How did he throw all those touchdown passes without his coaches' love and approval?

I am not sure how the Steelers and Cowboys won all those championships without foam rollers. How did anyone survive?

Mike Webster ran the steps of Three River's Stadium everyday after practice. And he pushed the sled in his yard all the time.  He ran the woods behind his house with the dogs in the neighborhood. He ran repeated 400's. He lifted weights in the basement of a bar with his teammates in cutoff sweats and athletic tape on his wrists and in jeans and suspenders. He never said that he "needed to get his legs underneath him." He would squat as many reps as he could, then drop the weight off his back and deadlift the weight for as many as he could. His body adapted. I love Mike Webster, and stories about him. I'm always emailing his son, Colin for more of them.

Everybody wants to diet, but until one peanut or a slice of banana is nirvana to you, you ain't dieting.

Everyone starts out like a ball of fire, raring to go, and then it hits. Those squats are uncomfortable, those deadlifts make my ears ring. I'm hungry. Yup. Now go sit on the couch. Perseverence or nothing.

Everybody wants to be told that if they just keep trying, they will be great, and in fact, you are just fine as you are. Nope, trying is nothing. everyone can try. There is DOING and succeeding and nothing else. But you know what? Take this trophy anyway. You showed up.

You wanna win? Don't hide. Most  hide except  for the hearty few. And my question is always :How can you live with yourself? Wow.

Oh yeah, here is your trophy.

If you have to be there anyway, why not go as hard as you can. If not, why show up? Just don't show up. What is that?

If you are late, you think that you are more important, that your time is more important, than everyone else's time.

Gaining weight is the easiest thing in the world to do. I know, you can't. Sit on the couch.

What diet do I use to lose weight? The one with protein and fibrous carbs, weight training and cardiovascular exercise. Solved. Now the hard part: doing it. No magic formula. But it's Thanksgiving!

Do extra work if you aren't good enough. Squat everyday. Why not? Is the other way working for you?

All About Being a Lifer

What's a Lifer? Someone who isn't in to something for just a day, a month, a year...it's for life. Whether its training or your family or your job...it doesn't matter. You work at it, you build on it, you see the big picture . You don't miss workouts because it means something to you. You are like a Shakespearean actor- no matter what is going on in your life, you block it out when it's time to train. You walk into the weight room and all else disappears. Worry about it later.
